Second Team operates the overseas developer hiring platform, ‘Supercoder’. Supercoder is a platform that selects skilled developers through its own verification system and connects them with suitable companies. It currently boasts a global talent pool of 110,000 individuals from 115 countries and serves over 400 corporate clients. Its revenue is also growing rapidly.


Second Team is preparing to expand Supercoder's services. The plan is to expand the service regions to enable the hiring of global talent not just in Korea but also overseas, and to increase the range of target occupations to include developers, marketers, and sales professionals. They are also developing an 'AI Interviewer' feature that uses artificial intelligence (AI) technology to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of talent verification. Second Team's goal is to support corporate recruiters worldwide in finding verified talent more easily.


We met with Choi Jae-woong, CEO of Second Team, to talk about his company and Supercoder.



Q. IT Donga: Hello, CEO Choi Jae-woong. Please introduce yourself and Second Team.


A. CEO Choi Jae-woong: Hello, this is Choi Jae-woong from Second Team. I began my career as a system engineer and consultant at Oracle, where I handled infrastructure consulting for domestic manufacturing companies like Samsung Electronics and LG Electronics. Afterwards, I served as the Head of Product Services for a healthcare company in Switzerland and ran a blockchain startup in Singapore related to Security Token Offerings (STO). Then, in 2021, I founded Second Team.


Second Team develops and operates the global developer hiring platform, Supercoder. As technological advancements have enabled remote work and AI has broken down language barriers, the environment has become conducive to hiring global talent more easily. We launched Supercoder to solve the developer shortage that companies face by tapping into this global talent pool.



Q. IT Donga: Please tell us about Supercoder.


A. CEO Choi Jae-woong: Supercoder is a global developer hiring platform. When a company looking to hire developers uses Supercoder, they can more easily find global talent that fits their needs.


Supercoder's biggest feature is its global talent pool. Currently, about 110,000 developers from 115 countries have joined Supercoder, and this number is growing five-fold every year. We also select skilled developers through our own verification system and connect suitable developers to companies with our matching system. Thanks to this, 42.5% of companies that hired global talent through Supercoder have proceeded with additional hires. I would say that our service satisfaction is quite high.


Our revenue is also continuously increasing. Since our launch in 2021, we have achieved a cumulative revenue of 7.3 billion KRW, recording 3.3 billion KRW last year alone.



Q. IT Donga: I heard you are preparing to expand Supercoder. Could you please elaborate?


A. CEO Choi Jae-woong: We are preparing for expansion in two aspects. The first is service area expansion. Until now, we have primarily connected overseas talent with domestic Korean companies. We plan to expand this to help companies worldwide hire global talent. While we previously focused on developers, we plan to broaden the scope to various roles like marketing and sales. This will help domestic companies more easily find verified global talent across various job functions when they expand into overseas markets.


We intend to apply this to the Indian market first. We determined that Supercoder has a strong competitive edge because India has a large pool of global talent, and the User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) of local hiring platforms are not well-optimized. After that, we will gradually expand to other global markets like Vietnam.



Q. IT Donga: Please also tell us about the AI Interviewer you are currently developing.


A. CEO Choi Jae-woong: Alongside service expansion, we are also preparing the ‘AI Interviewer’. Until now, our team members personally conducted interviews to gather and review various data for talent verification. This required a significant amount of time, effort, and cost. The AI Interviewer is a solution that automates the talent verification process and applies consistent evaluation criteria to increase the efficiency and accuracy of resume and job skill screening.


The AI Interviewer analyzes the company's job posting and the candidate's resume, then conducts the interview by asking optimized questions. It not only asks the questions the company specifies but also independently determines what additional information needs to be clarified from the candidate's answers and asks follow-up questions. Through this, recruiters can gain a comprehensive understanding of the candidate and find suitable talent for their company more easily.


We plan to release a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) version of the AI Interviewer this coming March, and after further enhancement and data learning, we will launch the official version within the year.
